Shannon's View

Educators in any discipline who force people to suffer because they have suffered – and who somehow think that builds character – are wrong and archaic. Our world is moving beyond that.

That’s not to say that there aren’t ‘lessons that have to be learned the hard way,’ and you certainly can’t ‘do the work for them,’ of course, but a hero guides and encourages from a place of wisdom, while a villain revels in the student’s suffering as a stroke for his own ego.

If you aren’t using your experiences to make learning easier for your students, you are failing as an educator.
